WPSI Structure

Advisory Panel

WPSI committees are overseen by an Advisory Panel comprised of representatives from The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and three other major professional organizations representing the majority of women’s health care clinicians, including the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), American College of Physicians (ACP), and National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health (NPWH). In addition, individuals who were members of the National Academy of Medicine’s (NAM) (formally the Institute of Medicine) 2011 Committee on Preventive Services for Women serve as Advisory Panel members. The current MSC Chair, DISC Chairs and WPSI Pilot Program Chairs also sit on the WPSI Advisory Panel. The Advisory Panel guides the work of the WPSI and ensures that the initiative delivers a consistent message.

* Advisory Panel, Multidisciplinary Steering Committee, and Dissemination & Implementation Steering Committee participation in WPSI does not constitute organizational endorsement of the recommendations. *

Multidisciplinary Steering Committee

Development of recommendations for women’s preventive health care services is driven by a Multidisciplinary Steering Committee (MSC) consisting of a broad coalition of women’s health care clinicians to who will collaborate in the development and implementation of these recommendations.

Nominations for the MSC are solicited from national health professional organizations with a demonstrated commitment to promoting consistent, high-quality preventive health care services for women across the lifespan. Preference was given to nominees who have methodological expertise and/or a strong understanding of the elements of evidence-based medicine. Nominated representatives were asked to serve for one year, with reappointment considered annually through the reapplication process.

Members of the MSC are responsible for the following activities:

  • Support the dissemination and promotion of the updated guidelines to clinicians, patients, and/or consumer advocates within the networks of the organization that they are representing
  • Routinely review HRSA’s current guidelines for women’s preventive services and assess their continued relevance and accuracy
  • Act as a clinical content review body during the review process, providing editorial guidance as needed — this includes reviewing and incorporating relevant comments received from the public and federal partners during external review
